Hawaiian wedding and vow renewal ceremonies typically involve the exchange of leis between the partners. Vow renewal ceremonies with children present often include them in the ceremony as well. Women always wear a flower lei about the neck, and optionally a flower crown called a “lei po’o”, which really does make a difference in photos.
Men will wear either a ti leaf lei, which looks a little like a rope, or a maile lei, which is larger and more expressive.
In the image above, the man is wearing a ti leaf lei.
In the image to the right, the man is wearing maile lei. The woman is wearing both a standard flower lei about her neck and a lei po’o on her head.
I can get handmade leis for your ceremony from a local Hawaiian family. You are also welcome to bring your own leis.
Prices:
- $15 – ti leaf lei
- $75 – maile lei
- $20 – flower neck lei
- $75 – lei po’o
